Listening Champion
Listening champion training is about developing staff knowledge of Deaf Awareness and how best to support Deaf students. This role would be for a nominated member of staff. The role of the Listening Champion would involve supporting the Deaf student directly along with supporting other staff in schools with meeting the needs of Deaf students.
The nominated staff member would need to commit to four mornings of training with our team in order to complete the necessary level of knowledge, understanding and skills The Listening Champion training will cover the following areas: •To understand the impact of deafness, including academic achievement •To be aware of potential mental health issues for some Deaf students •An increased understanding of the social and emotional needs of Deaf students along with their audiological needs •To be able to manage audiological equipment •Carry out daily listening and hearing aid checks •Support independence of Deaf students to manage their own equipment •To keep colleagues up to date with information and best practice in supporting Deaf students •To liaise with Flourish regarding any issues that may arise •To work closely with the Teacher of the Deaf |
